The Safety and Training Coordinator is responsible for Lewis County REC’s safety program, policies, procedures, compliance and training. Maintaining a safe work environment for our employees is priority.
Job Description:
The Safety and Training Coordinator is a managerial, supervisory position in the Operations Department. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager. The Safety and Training Coordinator has responsibility for all of Lewis County REC’s safety program, policies, procedures compliance and training. Compliance and understanding of OSHA, DOT and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) is a must.
Job Requirements:
Prior experience as a Safety Coordinator, certified Journeyman Lineman or have knowledge of electric utility operations and safety practices is highly desired. Successful completion of OSHA 30 and Certified Loss Control Profession will be required after hire.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Safety & Training Coordinator
- OBJECTIVES
Responsible for all Lewis County REC safety policies, procedures, training, compliance and documentation. Maintain a safe work environment for all employees while assisting the Operations Manager and Field Engineer.
- REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Operations Manager or their representative
- RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand and comply with LCREC safety rules, procedures, safety policies; including OSHA, DOT, NESC
- Creates, coordinates and presents safety programs monthly.
- Implement the overall safety program including the safety committee
- Conducts safety inspections on vehicles, facilities, crew visits and job sites
- Coordinates and administers Apprentice/Journeyman Lineman Program
- Investigate all accidents, which may include vehicle accidents, employee accidents, electrical contacts, and any other accident which may be “near-miss” or require further investigation.
- Responsible for hazardous waste management. Stays informed of EPA and other agency rules and laws.
- Documents, prepares, updates and files safety reports, forms and records relating to LCREC safety program.
- Ensure Commercial Drivers’ Licenses are maintained in accordance with DOT.
- Maintain the Emergency Response Plan.
- Assists the Operations Manager and Field Engineer as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Conducts oneself in such a manner that promotes a harmonious working relationship with all LCREC personnel, members, and the public.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: This position requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or its equivalent. Basic skills and abilities operating a personal computer using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Successful completion of the Advanced Flagging and Job Site Safety program within one year of hire. As well as, successful completion of CLCP (Certified Loss Control Profession) as well as OSHA 30 hour course within three years will be required. Must possess a cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate and a first aid card, or completed within one year of hire
EXPERIENCE: Prior experience as a Safety Training Coordinator or a certified Journeyman Lineman is highly desired. Must be knowledgeable of electric utility operations and safety practices.
ABILITIES
& SKILLS: Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently. Must be able to work well with all cooperative employees and maintain respect and trust from and to fellow employees. Must be knowledgeable of the Cooperative’s service rules, regulations and policies. Must be competent in the use of a computer and relevant software programs. Position requires attention to detail and accuracy with proven ability in problem solving techniques.
Must have the ability to work unsupervised and be able to multitask, work under pressure and meet required deadlines.
Must possess a valid CDL, Class A driver’s license. If lacking at the time of hire, must obtain withing six months of employment. Successfully pass a physical exam and/or drug screen at any time requested by the Cooperative.
WORKING
CONDITIONS: The Safety and Training Coordinator will report Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. This position is subject to work hours outside of normal working hours and weekends to support the cooperative during outages or emergencies. Physical requirements include long periods of standing, lifting, bending and carrying materials. The employee must be able to occasional lift and/or move up to 50lbs -75lbs.
Work will be done indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions.
